Before & After
What to Expect
One month prior to treatment you should discontinue the use of any products with retinol, mandelic, glycolic, and salicylic active ingredients.
You should not receive any other peels, microneedling, laser resurfacing, or exfoliation within two weeks of treatment. Do not wax the treated areas one week prior to treatment.
Prior to your Cosmelan treatment we recommend you discontinue the use of retinol or other chemically exfoliating products or applications for 12 hours prior to treatment. For optimal results and comfort do not use any scrubs or facial exfoliation on the day of treatment.
No prolonged sun exposure or sun burns to the treatment area 24 hours prior to treatment.
Men should not shave two days prior to treatment.
You will meet with one of our expert providers to discuss your skin concerns and determine if you’re a good candidate for Cosmelan treatment. Cosmelan is Look Lab’s preferred treatment for correcting dark spots, melasma and skin pigmentation. It can be applied to areas such as the face, neck, chest and many other areas that pigmentation or discoloration is a concern.
Prior to applying your Cosmelan Peel, your face will be cleansed and prepped. The peel, which has a buttery texture and peanut butter-like color, will be applied to the treatment area to be left on for 6-10 hours post-treatment. It is recommended that you wear an outfit that will allow the treated area to remain untouched for the duration of the 6-10-hour processing period. Plastic covering will be provided to cover the treatment area and protect clothing.
The duration of the processing period will be specific to your skin type, area of treatment, and goals. It is important to follow your provider’s directions on when to wash off the peel.
Day 1
Wash the mask off using lukewarm water at the time specified by your provider, generally 6 – 10 hours after treatment. Repeat a gentle wash as many times as necessary to remove all traces of the product. Avoid direct contact with the eyes.
Day 2
Post-care products are provided as part of your treatment. One of which is a SPF, which should be applied daily. Should you choose to use another SPF it should be oil free, fragrance free, and post-procedural.
Day 3 – 90
Continue the use of the provided SPF.
Beginning day 3, apply provided Cosmelan Step-2 once in the evening. If skin starts to peel again, decrease application to once every 2-3 days.
Also beginning on day 3, use provided daily moisturizer may be applied. Should you choose to use another moisturizer during this time, it should be post-procedural and heavy, overly-creamy moisturizers should be avoided.
Is there downtime?
After the Cosmelan peel, you may experience redness, swelling, and a sensation similar to sunburn following your treatment. These effects are common and usually subside within a few days. Within 3 to 7 days, you will start to see noticeable peeling and flaking of the skin. This is a crucial phase as the outer layer of skin is being exfoliated to reveal fresher, more even-toned skin underneath. While there is no true down time with Cosmelan it is important that you are able to avoid the sun following treatment and are prepared for some ‘social downtime’ during the peeling phase.
Sunblock should be applied every morning, rain or shine, indoor or outdoor. If you will be spending a lot of time outdoors, reapply sunblock every 2-3 hours as necessary, even on cloudy days.
When will I see my results?
In the first 1-2 weeks following your Cosmelan peel as the peeling process progresses, you will begin to notice improvements in skin texture and tone. The treated areas will start to look brighter, with a reduction in pigmentation and dark spots.
By three to four weeks, you’ll see more significant changes in the appearance of your skin. The reduction in pigmentation and improvement in skin tone should become more apparent.
Over the next 2-3 months with continued treatment of the provided at home Cosmelan 2 application, you’ll experience clearer, more even skin with a significant reduction in pigmentation and improved overall radiance.
The exact timeline for seeing results can vary depending on factors such as skin type, severity of pigmentation, and adherence to post-treatment care instructions. Following your specialist’s advice on skincare and sun protection is essential to achieving the best outcomes.
How long will my results last?
Many patients experience significant and long-lasting improvements in skin tone and reduction in pigmentation following a Cosmelan peel. Results can last for several months to over a year, depending on how well you follow post-treatment care and maintenance recommendations.
The duration of your results can be affected by various factors, including your skin type, the intensity of pigmentation, and your lifestyle choices. Individuals with more severe pigmentation or frequently exposed to the sun may need additional treatments or maintenance.
